Jubilee Nails!

So June 2012 is the Queens Silver Jubilee in the UK!  Great excuse for a street party!!  I am going to the event in London for the day over the bank holiday weekend to celebrate the Jubillee with some friends and I had a dream that I did some Jubilee themed nail art (lol)!  So I decided to make that dream a reality!

I loved creating these nails as it had a theme, so I thought of as many things British that I could and made them into a nail!

I won't go through the different polishes I used because there was so many different ones but I have listed below all the British inspirations I used!

The Queens Crown and crown jewels
Burberry London
A cuppa' Tea!
2012 London Olympics
Rememberance Poppy
Black Cab
British Bulldog
Alexander McQueen
UK Flag
The British Isles

Does anyone have anymore Brit related ideas?!!  I need to decide on one idea for the day! Or maybe I will go with all of them!!?

God Save McQueen!

Just a little art I did last night whilst being made to sit and endure a football game (bore.)!!

Alexander McQueen.. obviously super famous for his skull scarf designs!  I wish I owned a real one but mine is just a copy from somewhere online!

For the base colour I used my YSL duo Noir.. The shiny one!  I used 2 coats of this to make it mega black and opaque!
For the base colour on my ring finger I used 2 coats of Collection 2000 White - I really need a new white polish all of mine seem to go gloopy really quickly.  Any recommendations??

For the skulls I used a medium dotting tool to create skull like shapes with my white polish.  I waited for this to dry and used a small dotting tool for the eyes and mouth.  If my nails were longer at the moment I would have made the skulls bigger and probably done more details on the faces, but as they are short I stuck to very simple skulls!

I added a few gold skulls with my lush Topshop Gold polish as we know McQueen loved a bit of bling!  This was all topped off with a coat of Seche Vite as per usual!

I hope this is a design McQueen would be proud of!

Harrods GlossyBox.. Tried and Tested!

So i've given most of my Glossy goodies a go and here is my review..

Narciso Rodriguez for her EDT (1ml sample)
Yuck!  I really deteste this smell!! Its super flowery and soapy and just not my cup of tea! Enough said.

Molton Brown Heavenly Gingerlily Moisture Bath and Shower (50ml sample)
Molton Brown is one of those products which looks fab in the bathroom and usually smells pretty nice and does the job!  However I didnt enjoy the smell of this shower gel very much but it did lather up nicely and leave my skin pretty soft.  I probably wouldnt buy the full size though!

Burberry Miniature Lip Cover in "Rosewood No.4" (0.8g sample)
I love this!  The colour is a very pale browney nude and is perfect for me as I don't wear lippy often (i have freckles on my lips and lippy just looks plain odd!) I love the packaging of this the most its so cool and Burberry'esque!  I think I will definately be buying a full size version but maybe in a pink!

Clarins Extra Firming Body Cream (30ml sample)
I actually really love this firming cream.  I have used it 3 times after a hot bath and it does feel quite firming and my skin feels really soft, especially my legs.  I suffer from really dry skin so this wouldnt be a cream I could use daily, I need something thicker and more moisture rich BUT this is a great product for someone who doesnt need to slather the moisturiser on every day and wants firmer feeling skin!  I would say that this sample was smaller than it looked and I am down to one last use which isn't great to review.

YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum (5ml sample)
Now this is the only product I am yet to try.  This is mainly because it is a serum and that word freaks me out for something I am putting on my face!  I have pretty clear skin but used to suffer badly with spots and ecsema and i am petriefied to put any oily kind of product on my face!!!  I really wnat to try it though as it is YSL and I have heard nothing but good things.. but for now it will stay tucked away in my drawer of "products-to-try"!!

So what is my verdict..??
I'm really quite underwhelmed about this Months box :(  Considering it was a very hyped Harrods special I am left feeling a little pants!!
The products were not big enough for me to try for long enough to give a good review.. and the products just didn't excite me!

Come on GlossyBox give me something I can shout and scream about.. pleeeease!
How did you guys get on with your Feb box?

Nail Polish Tag

I’ve seen this nail polish tag on many a blog recently so I thought I would do something different and fill it in!
1.      What's your favourite nail polish company?
Ohhh and the first question is a hard one!!  My favourites are all different makes and I usually pick my favourite from the colour and ease of use.. but I would probably say OPI and China Glaze.  OPI mainly for the ease of use as their brushes are super quality, and China Glaze for the range of colours

2. Glitter or no glitter?
I am a glittery kind of girl!! BUT I don’t use a hell of a lot of glitter polishes… I don’t know why this is and I cannot provide a valid explanation SO I have decided to start posting more glitter nail art as I cannot find an excuse not too!!

3. OPI, China Glaze, or Essie?
EEKK well as above OPI and China Glaze are my faves and I couldn’t possibly pick between them!  Essie I just cannot get on with. I have 2 polishes from them and neither is particularly decent quality.. maybe I will give them a second chance if anyone can recommend their fave shade??

4. When do you change your nail polish?
Usually about 3 – 4 times a week and sometimes 3 – 4 times in one day if it’s a weekend!! (My bf hates me)

5. What's your favourite colour on your nails?
Pink!  Or anything pastel.  Its love

6. Darks or brights?

Brights.  I rarely do dark nails unless it’s a black polish as I am super fair and I just don’t find it flattering!!  I prefer cute nail art but as I say black is as edgy as I get!

7. What are you wearing on your nails right this moment?I am a disgusting person.. for once I actually have NO polish on!!  Only a strengthener to let my nails grow grow grow!  I broke my ring finger nail at the weekend and I am  sulking about it by refusing to paint it!

8. Matte nails in or out?
In!!  I have the Nubar Men's Matte stuff and love it.  I also have the YSL duo and think that look is so chic and fabulous!  The only down side to Matte is it doesn’t stay matte for very long and it can look shabby very quickly

9. French Manicure?
I am not a classic Frenchie fan.  I just think it’s kind of dated now and boring!! It also remind me of those chavs you get on MBFGW and they have those really cheap nasty horrid acrylics.. Vile!!!!  I wouldn’t have them on my wedding day either.. it’s all about nail art or at least a coloured frenchie!!

10. Favourite summer colours?
Pink and Orange together!!  I love the way it looks if you create a gradient nail – which I have actually done recently but I haven’t posted about them! (to do list!)

I hope you enjoyed reading my Nail Tag!!

Early Easter!

As it is nearly Easter I decided it was time for a little themed nail art!  I decided on Easter bunnies in my fave pastels with an Easter egg style thumb!

For the base I used 2 coats of Natural Collection white polish.  Once this was dry I used my thickest dotting tool to create my bunnies heads!

For the heads I used Barry M "Peach Melba", China Glaze "In Audrey", Revlon "Lilac" and OPI "Pink Friday".  I then used a slightly smaller dotting tool to create the ears.  I then added some white polish for the insides of the ears and drew on little closed eyes with a black liquid eyeliner (my new fave nail art tool!)

For my thumb nail I used only my tiniest dotting tool with all the colours used for the bunnies!

I hope you like my Easter nails!! Quite tempted to go and make an Easter bonnet now!!!

Mystical Sky!

I have been a sickly girl this week :( Hence the lack of posting!!  I also had a lack of inspiration due to said sickness so I decided to do another Galaxy'esque design which turned out to actually be rather nice!

I decided to make this one more like a daytime blue sky with a kind of rainbow!  I think it looks sort of mystical!!

For the base colour I used 1 coat of No7 "Poolside" which is a lovely blue when used with other colours.  For me on its own its just not so good and makes my skin tone look washed out

Again like in my galaxy nails I sponged on the same white and yellow colours but I changed the pink for a more bright and colourful one.  The pink I chose was Orlys "Basket Case" a super highlighter pink colour!

I used the same dark blue polish to blend all the colours into the "sky" and then used my dotting tools to create little specks.  This was all topped off with a coat of China Glaze glitter polish and 1 coat of Seche Vite!

What d'ya think?!

To Infinity and Beyond!

Here is my version of the ever so popular Galaxy nails!

These are my absolute favourite nail art creation to date I am sooooo pleased with how they have turned out and I wish I was going to some kind of space themed party so I could spray myself silver and have galaxy themed eyeshadow to match!!!

For the base colour I used 1 coat of Collection 2000 in "Metallic Grey Blue 228".  i bought this one off Ebay for like £2 to use with my Konad set as its apparently a fab stamping polish.  But i haven't got round to using it until now and its SO nice!!  Its the perfect base colour for galaxy nails and the best thing is you only need 1 coat and it is totally opaque

I then tore a little bit of a makeup sponge off and used it to dab a line of faint white polish across my nails, using a Natural Collection white polish
I then did the same with my Kiko in "Yellow no.4" down the middle of the white line
Then to one side of the line I dabbed a little of Revlon "Teak Rose"
The trick is to use just a little bit of each polish to get a blurry effect

Next you need to use a dark blue thin polish to blend in the colours to the "sky" base coat.  You do this by dabbing either side of your colourful line..  I used Maybelline Express Finish in "Notorious Navy" mine has gone kind of watery which is good for this as you only need a little bit

You then need to add a few "stars".  I used my tiniest dotting tool (you can use a toothpick) to create tiny white dots and then a larger dotting tool for bigger dots

Finish this off with a coat of sparkly polish - I used China Glaze in "Nova" which is a silver glitter polish - and then use 1 thick coat of Seche Vite to seal in your design

Sorry this is a long winded one.. next time I think I will photograph each step to make it easier

I hope you think my Galaxy nails are "out of this world" Ha Ha!!

Sophy Robson Nail Art Queen

This lady is the Queen of Nail Art and I am sure no other nail polish lover will disagree here!  She is amazing.  I've been following here blog on tumblr for ages and I am never bored with the funky and sometimes outrageous designs she comes up with!
Check out Sophy Robson's tumblr here

I received an amazinggg Christmas present from my bf.. I was treated to my own manicure and nail art design by one of Sophy's fantastic team members (who also has a blog you can find here)  I chose to have a V Gap design done which to some may seem a little boring but I really used to struggle with doing them myself and wanted some tips and tricks from the proffessionals!
Here are my V Gap nails...

Its a shame my nails were so short when I had these done.. they were battered from the festivee period!
I'm not sure which black she used here but the gold was a Topshop varnish which i whipped up as soon as I could after I had my nail art done as its soooo sparkly and lush!

If any of you get a chance to get some nail art done by someone else or you want to treat a friend I highly recommend Sophy Robsons nail bar located on Kings Road, Chelsea!

Does anyone else follow and love Sophy's work?

Heavenly Harrods!

Hello Harrods!!!
So as I am sure you are all aware this months GlossyBox was the Harrods Edition!  I was soooo sooo SO excited for this box as I had heard snippets of Burberry and Clarins mentioned.. eeek!

So I received my box on Saturday morning woop woop.. it was white and shiny and wrapped up in a lovely silky green Harrod's ribbon
Here is what I found inside...

  • Narciso Rodriguez for her EDT (1ml sample)
  • Molton Brown Heavenly Gingerlily Moisture Bath and Shower (50ml sample)
  •  YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum (5ml sample)
  • Burberry Miniature Lip Cover in "Rosewood No.4" (0.8g sample)
  • Clarins Extra Firming Body Cream (30ml sample)
So whats the verdict at first glance.. WELL.... I was super chuffed with the brands I received in my box.  All are high end and probably things I wouldnt usually buy which is the whole aim of GlossyBox
BUT I would say the lack of full size or even slightly bigger products really dissapointed me.  The Clarins moisturiser, which is the largest sample, even feels a little empty!!

Anyhow I will give every product a fair trial and hope I am left satisfied and inspired to buy the full size versions!

How are you guys getting on with your GlossyBox's??

Nail'spiration!

Some of my lovely friends have been trying out some nail art of their own inspired by my designs!  Which is super flattering!!!

Shanie's nails above were inspired by my recent rose obsession and I think she did a better job than me!!!  Love the base colour especially.. I must find out which colour it is!  Good job Shanie :)

The above nails by the lovely Natalie were inspired by my Zooey Deschanel Spring French manicure copycat design!  Nat has beautiful long nails and these are super neat and tidy! Love!

I hope everyone else has been trying out some fun nail art and enjoying my designs!!

A Bee Fail!!!!

Please don't laugh at my pathetic bee!!  he was a happy bee when I drew him!!

So this is just to show you a failed nail art of mine.. I was experimenting with some different ideas and decided to use a sky blue with a bee sort of flying across my nails!  As you can see my attempt was kind of poor  *must do better*

The colours however are still very nice.. for the base colour I used No7 in "Stand back".  This isn't my favourite blue by itself but I think with other colours it looks really good.  The consistency is also great and only takes 2 coats to look opaque.

For the cloud I used a cheap Natural Collection white and a dotting tool and then added the Bee's "trail" with my YSL in "Noir" and again a dotting tool

Finally I drew my happy but ridiculous bee with Kiko in "Yellow 279" and finished off with a coat of Seche Vite!

Have any of you had a more successful Bee nail?!

Spring French Manicure á la Zooey Deschanel

I hope all of you Twitterettes saw Zooey Deschanel's Nail tweet on 5th March!  It was beauuuutiful!  She named this her Spring French Manicure and I think this is a perfect name for these fresh coloured take on la french manicure..

I decided to do my own version below with different colours that I have been enjoying recently!

The base is Barry M's "Peach Melba" and the simple french stripes are Revlon "Lilac"

Super easy, super cute and super "Springy"!
Let me know who else has been trying this look out!!

Strawberry Flavour!

Not the neatest nail art I have done but this is my first attempt at Strawberry flavour nails!!  I am quite pleased with how they turned out for a first go!!

For the base colour I used Leighton Denny "I Love Juicy" which is such a good polish.. you only need 1 coat!! Woo hoo!

For the green leaves I used my OPI "Gargantuan Green Grape Matte" and a small nail art striping brush!  I think I need better brushes as it was tricky to get the leaves neat..

I then used Kiko polish in"356 Melon" with a dotting tool to do the seeds!

I finished this of with a thick coat of Seche Vite which really does finish off every nail art look so well!

I hope my strawberry nails have made you crave some fruity nails!!

Pastel Polka-dots

Pastels are the best!  They never fail to look cute!!
This was just a fun and quick weekend nail art that anyyyybody could do!

For the base colour I used Barry M "Peach Melba" which is actually so much lighter in real life (I promise I am investing in a new camera!!!)  I loved this colour when I bought it and I love it even more on my nails!
Here it is on its own..

Yeah, I know.. its hot!

I then used my dotting tool to do the polka dots.. here are the colours I used

China Glaze "For Audrey"
Rimmel Fruities "Lemon Sorbet"
Revlon "Lavender"
Leighton Denny "Sunday Girl"

I hope you like the polka-dots!!

Tell Me About It.. STUD!

This weekend I went stud crazy to a family party! I bought a last minute dress from Zara and did some very last minute nails to match!

For the base colour I used my YSL duo in "Noir".  This colour is a dream.. it it so opaque you can get away with just one coat if you're in a rush!  (I used 2 coats as I had some time)

The studs I picked up on EBay yonks ago for like 99p for about 100!!  I stuck them on with a teeny bit of nail glue and finished all my nails off with a thick coat of Seche Vite

So so simple but so chic!  Lovin' the studs!

A Slight Rose Obsession Maybe..

Ok so now I have mastered the art of drawing roses I jsut want to paint them ALL the time!!!
I did these last night and I am so chuffed with them!!

For the base colour I used 2 coats of Revlon polish in "Lilac" on top of a coat of clear OPI.  I love Revlon polishes.. I find the shades and consitency just right!
For the stripes I used China Glaze in "Harmony".. I used a striping brush to do these

When the stripes were fully dry I used China Glaze in "Pool Party" mixed with Wet n Wild White to do my roses!  I then used my OPI "Gargantuan Green Grape Matte" for the leaves
Finished off with a thick coat of Seche Vite and done!!

I hope you have been trying out roses and loving them as much as me!!!

Accessorize Nail Wraps...

Now, I can't seem to get on with nail wraps.. I have only tried the Nails Rock versions and I find they just don't stick properly and I can never get a smooth edge!!  Last time I tried applying them I end up screwing them up in rage and got in a right stress about it!!!

Anyhow.. my friend had a birthday and she has beautiful nails and I loved the design on these so I got these as part of her present.  She tried them out last night and absolutely loves them!!  She said they were so easy to apply so I am going to give them a go and let you know how I get on!

She sent me a pic last night.. its not the clearest but it gives you an idea of how they look on!
